Station pier (formally known as Railway Pier) is a historic pier located in Port Melbourne, Victoria, Australia and is Melbourne's main cruise ship terminal servicing a variety of cruise lines and up until recently, hosted the Spirit of Tasmania which has now moved to a purpose built terminal in North Geelong.
The original pier opened in 1854 and was built to import/export goods and take in the growing number of passengers arriving into Melbourne amidst the Victorian gold rush. Station Pier is listed on the Victorian Heritage Register and boasts a large terminal building for check-in & boarder security and has 4 operating berths with the largest being able to handle a cruise ship length of 330m.
Station pier had a passenger railway service on the old Port Melbourne railway line which ceased operations in 1939 with the Port Melbourne railway line remaining operational to Port Melbourne Railway Station (now known as Beacon Cove) until October 1987. The line was converted into the now 109 tram line in December 1987 which currently services the site to the present day.
With Station Pier being my local cruise port, in this section I have partnered up with Dharey Imaging to share some incredible shots below of the cruise ships that visit this amazing city - Enjoy!
